Having had approximately 10 nervous breakdowns during this simple assignment I am relieved to say it is over, handed in, DONE. Now I'm really looking forward to learning more about typography next semester.

POSTER

So here it is... the final poster. I wanted to go for a simple black and white poster to illustrate the typeface in a clear yet interesting way. Love it that there are random hidden words like 'joy' and 'art'. Hurray!

Puddleduck

I have christened my typeface Puddleduck because it reminds me of the kind of type you find in children's story books. It has a gentle, slightly playful yet relatively conservative feel and I'm Sure Beatrix Potter would be delighted...

Now on to the poster. Nearly there

FINAL DESIGN!!!

After many sleepless nights stressing about my typeface and how to construct it... and many hours hunched over my laptop trying to manipulate my wayward pen tool I realised i was missing the point of the exercise. So on to PLAN B - a simplified design working with an oval template and the line tool, in order to actually learn about the construction of letterforms. My brain needed a formula to work around so creativity stepped down with her tail between her legs to make room for logic. I started with an unevenly weighted stroke to add interest but eventually rejected this idea as it proved to be far too complicated to balance the letterforms. So here we are... eventually

Teaching myself Illustrator

A long and incredibly frustrating journey begins...

... even more drawings...

Drawings scanned and imported into Illustrator - to be turned into a template and traced.

... more drawings...

Struggling to decide where to go from here I started working on graph paper. I was hoping to find a formula to work from but ended up getting more confused by the restrictions of working on the grid.
